Joshua Dorne has been appointed captain of the West Indies squad for the Men’s Under-19 World Cup, to be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia in January–February 2026. The top-order batter will be supported by allrounder Jonathan Van Lange, who has been named vice-captain.
The 15-member squad features a blend of youth and experience, highlighted by the inclusion of 19-year-old Jewel Andrew. Andrew has already broken into the senior West Indies setup, having represented the side in three ODIs and five T20Is, and brings valuable exposure at the highest level.
West Indies head into the World Cup on the back of strong preparation, having played back-to-back seven-match Youth ODI series at home against Sri Lanka and England. Dorne emerged as the leading run-scorer in both series, underlining his credentials as captain, while Van Lange was the next-best contributor with the bat for West Indies. Several players from those campaigns—Zachary Carter, Matthew Miller, Jakeem Pollard, Shaquan Belle and Vitel Lawes—have also earned selection for the global tournament.
The bowling unit has shown promise as well. Pollard impressed across the two series, claiming 18 wickets in ten matches at an average of 16.27. Belle picked up 15 wickets in nine games, while Lawes bounced back strongly after a quiet England series to take 14 wickets at 14.92 in six matches against Sri Lanka.
“In assembling this group, we have aligned their development with the style of play we expect at the senior level,” said Dwain Gill, Cricket West Indies’ High Performance Manager. “We’ve ensured exposure to high-quality match opportunities and placed a strong emphasis on leadership, tactical awareness and individual support within their territories.”
At the Under-19 World Cup, West Indies have been placed in Group D alongside South Africa, Afghanistan and Tanzania. They will begin their campaign against Tanzania in Windhoek on January 15.
