Rohit Returns as Mumbai Announce Squad for Opening Vijay Hazare Fixtures

Rohit Sharma has been included in Mumbai’s squad for their opening two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, providing a major boost to the side as they begin their domestic one-day campaign. Shardul Thakur will captain the team, which also features a strong mix of established names and emerging talent.

Alongside Rohit, Mumbai have picked Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, adding solidity and flair to the batting line-up. However, there is no place in the squad for Ajinkya Rahane, Yashasvi Jaiswal or Ayush Mhatre, with the selectors opting to look beyond some of their regular stalwarts.

Several fresh faces have been rewarded for recent performances and potential. Chinmay Sutar, who previously represented India Emerging in List A cricket in 2019, returns to the fold. Young batter Ishan Mulchandani has also been named, while fast bowler Onkar Tarmale earns selection after being picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the recent IPL auction.

The squad still retains plenty of familiar Mumbai faces. Siddhesh Lad brings experience in the middle order, wicketkeeping duties will be shared by Hardik Tamore and Akash Anand, while the spin department will once again be anchored by the reliable duo of Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian.

Mumbai have been placed in Group C and will open their campaign against Sikkim in Jaipur on December 24. They will then take on Uttarakhand two days later, with Rohit Sharma expected to be available for these first two fixtures as the side looks to make a strong start to the tournament.
